Does killing independant business and censoring your movies sound alright? Then make it a Blockbuster night! "YOU'RE A FREAKING LOSER IF YOU THINK THAT TAKING A FEW PARTS OUT OF A MOVIE TOTALLY RUINS IT! IT'S PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO PROMOTE THE SMUT AND GARBAGE THAT IS PRODUCED EVERY YEAR IN THE MOVIE INDUSTRY!.....CLEAN UP AND GET A LIFE, PAL" --- --- --- "I don't know what your business is about, but it seems you are against video editing. I want to say that even though I don't think I would ever rent one of the videos you listed on this page, I think they are right for editing those videos. In fact, I think they should edit a lot more. I get sick walking through the store seeing porn cover after porn cover and sick video titles. If they put even more pressure on movie companies to edit their videos, I would be more supportive of their business.A.J." --- --- --- "Those complaining about this website clearly have no understanding what the power of Monopoly really is. They own such a vast percentage of the market share their decisions not to care films for"moral" reasons is (hypocritical, they carry porn in other countries. When I was working there they claimed to be larger than the next hundred video store chains put TOGETHER - that was before Hollywood Video of course (the Pepsi to their Coke). Considering they're owned by the same media conglomerate (Viacom) that owns Paramount, and thus is one of the primary funders behind the MPAA...it is a very distinct form of censorship not to carry NC-17 films. Not only does that mean they can economically force inhouse filmmakers to cut their films to reach a larger demand (ask Boogie Nights director Paul Thomas Anderson why he changed his mind, and decided to make the film R instead of NC-17...he says Blockbuster), but Blockbuster's parent company plays an active role in deciding which films GET an R or an NC-17 rating...which is why independent films are ALWAYS more likely to get the NC-17 and thus be banned from the 2 largest video store chains in America (which means virtually no distribution, and chance to make any real money)....just a couple brief thoughts on Blockbuster censorship." --- --- --- "It is amazing to see the number of ignorant people who defend Blockbuster. It would be just fine if Blockbuster defined itself as a "Family video store" and left it at that, but the fact that they aggressively muscle out any of their local competition with slick ad campaigns and product tie-ins and/or by simply buying out the struggling video stores in a given neiborhood makes this "Family" agenda of thiers all the more insidious. When video rental stores began operating 20 years ago they were nice because in many cases they allowed viewers to see films they mignt not see ordinarily because they were either too small to come to their area or their area was too small to attract films. Blockbusters philosophy destroies this by "Disney-fying" video rental. In effect by being anti-competitive and "pro-Family" they are effectively dictating what I can see in my own home. And THAT is why Blockbuster is EVIL. Blockbuster needs the hammer of God to wipe them from the face of the earth. End of discussion." --- --- --- "All the people who think you should get a life because you seek only violence and sex are obviously either not movie fans or are oblivious to the meanings in film. I am an avid movie fan and even do video editing at my home. Movies are made the way they are because of a writers and directors vision. If people find them objectionable then they can choose not to watch, but toalter someones hard work and to do sounder preasure from an operation like Blockbuster is simply wrong. There is no reason why a store can't carry films the way they were meant to be and still be a "Family Video Store." They rent Disney tapes if that's what you want. But after numerous people put years of work into a movie just to have it edited and altered is a way of cheating the viewer. Producers and Directors are involved in a painstaking and often years long ordeal in choosing the scenes they keep and cut, their decisions should stand. I am not seeking smut or violence but I would prefer to see afilm the way it was conceived." --- --- --- Ireland, don't be fooled...they're with you too!
